Citizens Health Watch is legally registered as a trust in Zimbabwe.

About us

Citizens Health Watch Zimbabwe (CHWZ) aims to serve as a platform for debate, evidence based advocacy and exploration of innovative mechanisms through which citizens can contribute towards ensuring maximum output from capacities available in the country’s health delivery system.

Where we work?

CHW works in Zimbabwe’s ten provinces through its provincial monitors who monitor the provincial hospitals and health care centres in 10 provinces. CHW intends to broaden its scope through recruiting grassroots citizen health activists.

Expertise and Values

CHW is set up as a non-profit organisation which believes that individual citizens and communities are an immense resource that should be taped into consistently and innovatively to ensure relevant, effective and efficient health system performance.

With skills, experience and above all passion in public health, health system performance evaluation, change management,  information systems and community engagement, CHWZ is uniquely placed to champion a maximisation of the reach, capacity and impact of Zimbabwe’s extensive network of health system components. CHWZ is a citizen-centred organisation working towards a vision of a country and world where people are no longer dying or suffering needlessly as a result of lack of effective healthcare service delivery and knowledge. CHW leverages the power of individuals and communities to catalyse and advocate for action at various scales to make basic healthcare knowledge available to all citizens, when and where it is needed

How we operate

Citizen-centred health monitoring, research, information generation collation, validation, dissemination, usage and advocacy are at the core of CHWZ activities. These dimensions are achieved through various dynamic and user-friendly face-to-facediscussionforums and engagements through telephones, websites, social, electronic and print media.

CHWZ activities are coordinated by a National Office[1] located in Harare and through satellite or provincial and citizen health monitors located in provincial and district hospitals across the country’s 10 administrative provinces. To minimise duplication of activities and ensure better returns from available financial, human, time, infrastructural and informational resources, CHWZ has links with relevant government departments, private, educational, civil society and community organisations that have activities and interests in health delivery. CHWZ also delivers its activities through a network of volunteers, citizens’ health interns and citizens’ health monitors. Policy leadership, technical and operational guidance for the organisation are provided by a Board of Trustees and broad-based activity-related advisory committees.
